To create my front cover, contents page and double page spread I used 'Canva' which is a simple graphic design software. Here, I looked through all the templates they had and decided which ones would look best for my magazine. The advantages of this is that it is very easy to use and provides a wide range of different templates and it also has sections that help you on how to design using tutorials and courses. The website also has many options to add your own text and pictures with a range of colours for text and also many fonts to choose from to suit your magazine style. The disadvantages of using this website are that it is not just for creating magazines so its features aren't just made for creating magazines so you don't have as many features for making a magazine, e.g. adding clipart, etc.
I also used paint to print screen and save my products as jpeg images so they were easier to upload onto my blog. Paint is very simple to use as it has a basic layout due to it being aimed at all ages to use. I also used word for my annotations as I could use text boxes around the work.
What I found difficult was trying to make sure my magazine was different and wasn't the cliché music magazine that people would expect to see and I conquered this by experimenting with different layouts, fonts and colours before making up my mind about what I wanted my magazine to look like overall.

Evaluation: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
My text is aimed at a mass audience. I would choose a publisher who publishes music magazines that aren't just based around one music genre and aren't just about the popular chart music. The publisher has to want to publish magazines that are quite unique and very different styles to the most popular magazines you see nowadays. I think there would be a gap in the market for my publication because it's quite different to usual magazines published so there needs to be magazines that don't look like every other magazine out there. A publisher who I think would publish my magazine is 'Bauer' as they publish the popular magazine 'Mojo' which is not just aimed at one music genre like mine and 'Mojo' is quite different to many music magazines such as 'Billboard' and 'Q'
Evaluation: How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My front cover and double page spread both include a young attractive teenage girl who looks quite rebellious which is what my target audience is. In one of the photos, the subject is portraying quite a rebellious character by doing a hand gesture that is seen as being quite 'punk'/'rock'. The CDs used in the front cover also show this.
People not included in my particular represented social group is older men and women, above the age of about 30 and children younger than about 15.

Evaluation: How did you attract/address your audience?
I attracted my audience by using a model in the age range of my target audience which attracts them because they will see a person of around their age and will instantly think that it is targeted towards people their age and seeing someone their age will also make them think it will be more interesting as seeing, for example, an old man on the front cover will not appeal to them as much and they won't think it's going to be interesting because they can't relate to anything.
The magazine was written by me and I fit in with my own target audience so the language it is written in will be understanding for other people it is targeted at. The style of my magazine also attracts my target audience because of its 'Polaroid' style cover and in the generation of my target audience, they will more than likely be familiar with them and will be attracted to the magazine by first look. Although my magazine is targeted at both female and male, I think that looking at the front cover, females will be more attracted to it. Especially as their is a young girl on the front so males will think it's more for females to read.

Evaluation: Who would be the audience for your media product?
My target audience is a mass audience of people who like chart music but also like some indie-pop music as my article talks about trying to get people to listen to more unique music than chart music that all sounds the same.
Their ideology are non-conformists who would listen to music about sex, drugs and rock'n'roll but also listen to chart music. So they don't have a particular music style that they listen to but they lean more to the indie style side of music.
Age: 16-25 years old
Gender: This does not apply as I think my magazine would attract both genders because of how it is
not just aimed at one particular style of music.
Interests: Interested in music personally, e.g. play guitar, drums or even sing. Interested in concerts, no matter how big, such as small gigs or huge concert arenas. Also quite interested in fashion, such as vintage fashion or just unique fashion.
Lifestyle: College and University students who have part-time jobs
Socio-economic group: B or C1
Penumbra Effect: This will be relevant because this will usually always be relevant with any magazine as people can like magazines that aren't targeted towards them because how are you supposed to only target some people when everyone likes different things, no matter how unexpected it is.

Evaluation: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
The main conventions of a magazine are a large image of subject covering the whole page, a large bold title of the magazine with a bar code, small bodies of text showing what is inside the magazine. The subject on the front cover is conventionally supposed to make eye contact with the audience which is where my magazine is not conventional to usual music magazines as on my magazine, the subject is covering her eyes by looking through CD's. However, the audience could still imagine that the subject is looking at them through the CD's and the image is also covering the whole front cover which is conventional of a music magazine. Other ways in which my magazine is conventional is that it has a bar code and also a large bold title 'modest' to show clearly what the name of the magazine is.
A lot of magazines also use colour images on their front cover, whereas I wanted to have my image in black and white as it looked much smarter to me and was different so stood out more from existing magazines. My magazine also has very limited text and images on the front cover as when I was looking at existing magazines, I felt as though it looked very cramped and there was a lot going on so I wanted to keep mine very simple and easy to read. I used black and white images on my front cover and my double page spread yet I used some colour images on my contents just to show to my audience that not all of the magazine would be black and white as I feel like that would be quite boring if it was all fully black and white. Throughout my 3 products I have used the same font colours and fonts to keep the consistency.
I did not use any suggestions from any questionnaires or surveys as I did not get round to making a one. However, it would have been extremely helpful to me if I had done because I would have been able to ask people the questions who are part of my target audience.
The Four F's
Format: I used a magazine style that I had seen before on an existing magazine which is the 'Polaroid' style with the white border as I thought it made the magazine look really appealing and fits with the indie style I was going for. The contents and front cover would be the same format each issue and so will the font. However, the colours used would change each issue just to give each of them a unique look to others so they are all individual.
Formula: The types of articles would be music based and would vary in length as people have more to say than others so they will definetly be different sizes, such as that an article could use two double pages. Each magazine would include a contents and an advertisement on the back to give the magazine more money.
Frame: The margins and gutters would all be the same in the magazine and in each issue to create a consistency.
Function: The message my magazine would be sending is a unique style to other magazines. It is aimed at not being conventional like usual popular music magazines.
